Letters to the Editor

Letters must be submitted by the end of business day Monday, the week of publication, must be signed and under 500 words. The full Letters Policy reads:

The Trempealeau County Times welcomes letters to the editor from our readers, but does place certain restrictions on such correspondence.

Letters are limited to 500 words or less. In order to keep this forum open to readers of this publication, letters can only be accepted from Times subscribers, and current and former residents of Trempealeau County and those portions of Buffalo and Jackson counties which lie in our core coverage area, the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Independence and Whitehall school districts.

There is a limit of one letter per month per writer. Thank you notes will not be accepted as letters to the editor. We reserve the right to refuse any letter, and to edit all letters for reasons of clarity and brevity, and to correct grammar and punctuation.

Because of the potential volume of correspondence during an election season, letters endorsing candidates for elected office cannot be accepted. Letters promoting campaigns will also not be accepted. Also, in order to allow for responses to previous letters to the editor, no letters on campaign- or election-related matters will be published the week before an election.

We require that each letter include the name of the writer and an address, phone number, email address or other means of confirming his or her identity. In certain instances, if personal safety could be affected by publication, the writer's name may be withheld upon request. In most cases, however, letters will not run unsigned.

Submitted News Items

The Times welcomes photographs and news items submitted by our readers and other residents of our coverage area. However, photos and stories produced by our staff take precedence over submitted materials, which will run as space is available, subject to editorial considerations of newsworthiness and acceptability. All submitted copy will be edited for purposes of brevity, clarity, punctuation and spelling. You may submit news items by contacting the Editor by E-Mail or by calling 715-538-4765.
